The Master of Business Administration (Leadership and Innovation) is designed to position graduates as leaders able to integrate technological, strategic and professional skills to innovate, and transform organisations or develop their own entrepreneurial venture.
The MBA (Leadership and Innovation) has been designed to provide an understanding of leadership, particularly in an international context, entrepreneurship, project management, ethical, cultural and emotional intelligences, sustainability and strategy. Innovation, creativity and data analytics underpin and permeate the course, representing areas of knowledge where graduates will have substantial awareness and highly developed skills. They will have the opportunity and ability to engage with projects where they can experience, and reflect on, professional and leadership identity. To facilitate this, students will undertake applied research training and develop critical thinking and practice skills.
Students have the opportunity to study current trends and predict future trends in technology and leadership. Two capstone subjects will enable students to assure Graduate Attributes and synthesise all acquired skills and knowledge in an applied task. Some students will engage in their own entrepreneurial venture and others will engage in leadership case study projects.
Students have flexibility in elective choice to broaden studies. It is recognised that there is a set of common skills and knowledge for leaders but those entering established organisations may be more focused on identifying areas for improvement, and entrepreneurs more focused on creating or developing their ventures. The course currently has two electives to allow a focus on the area of interest, and it is anticipated that others will be added over the next two years.
Throughout the course, students are provided with opportunities to engage in different types of leadership and explore their relevance to different contexts, including government and not-for-profit organisations.
