Course Overview

This qualification has been designed to offer a clear pathway from the Certificate II in Medical Service First Response to a university bachelor program. It reflects the role of pre-hospital and out-of-hospital workers employed by State/Territory ambulance authorities, the Australian Defence Force and the private sector to provide patient assessment, health care and transport services. These workers possess clinical skills and theoretical knowledge and provide clinical assessment and pre-hospital and out-of-hospital interventions to patients in an emergency, including providing advanced skills in life support.

Course Structure

To achieve this qualification the following 17 units must be completed satisfactorily.

  • HLTOUT005 Assess and deliver basic clinical care

  • HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care
  • HLTWHS006 Manage personal stressors in the work environment
