Course Overview

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. Our childcare courses and qualifications are nationally recognised and delivered from our Windsor campus in Sydney, NSW.
Educators at this level are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other educators.
Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens.
Through this diploma, you will develop the requisite skills and experience to work within the childcare and early childhood education industry. These include:

12 core units and 3 elective units are required for the award of the CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Academic Entry Requirements Have completed an equivalent secondary schooling level of a Higher School Certificate (year 12 in Australian schools) or can demonstrate suitable work or life experience.

Minimum Age to Apply Students must be 18 years of age or older.
Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum)
Have an IELTS* score of 5.5 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
  • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
  • Successful completion of an English Placement Test

Internship or Work Placements

Students will complete 288 hours of work placement. Placements will be in an accredited childcare facility. New Era Institute (NEI) has agreements with workplaces to provide suitable placements for students. Students are encouraged to look for their childcare centres to complete their practical.
