Course Overview

Bedford College offers nationally recognised training to prepare students for rewarding careers in the rapidly expanding field of Community Services. The course taught at Bedford gives students the skills and knowledge to be able to improve the lives of others by providing care, counsel, and support to those most in need. Once employed, graduates will be able to work in a wide variety of community settings to promote or restore the social functioning of individuals, families, social groups, and communities at large.

Course Structure

This qualification has the following 20 units of competency:

Core Units

  1. CHCCCS007 Develop and implement service programs
  2. CHCDEV005 Analyse impacts of sociological factors on people in community work and services
  3. CHCCCS004 Assess co-existing needs
  4. CHCCCS019 Recognise and respond to crisis situation
  5. CHCCSM013 Facilitate and review case management
  6. CHCDFV001 Recognise and respond appropriately to domestic and family violence
  7. CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  8. CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety
  9. CHCLEG003 Manage legal and ethical compliance
  10. CHCPRP003 Reflect on and improve own professional practice
  11. HLTWHS003 Maintain work health and safety
  12. CHCMGT005 Facilitate workplace debriefing and support processes
  13. CHCCSM016 Undertake advanced assessments

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Academic Entry Requirements A minimum of an Australian High School Certificate or have graduated from high school in your country.
Minimum Age to Apply Students must be at least 18 years if age at the time on enrollment. 
Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum) Bedford College requires a current minimum IELTS test score of 5.5 or equivalent.

  • Cert III in Individual Support + Cert IV in Ageing Support + Dip of Community Services

Internship or Work Placements

A mandatory 100 hours of practicum placement applies to this course. This placement is undertaken during the course.
