Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of community services workers involved in the delivery, management and coordination of person-centred services to individuals, groups, and communities. At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously within their scope of practice under broad directions from senior management. Workers support people to make change in their lives to improve personal and social wellbeing and may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers. They may also undertake case management and program coordination.

The following 20 units of competency are required to attain this qualification:

  3. CHCCCS019 Recognise and respond to crisis situations
  4. CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  5. CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety
  6. CHCLEG003 Manage legal and ethical compliance
  7. CHCMGT005 Facilitate workplace debriefing and support processes
  8. CHCPRP003 Reflect on and improve own professional practice
  9. HLTWHS003 Maintain work health and safety
  10. CHCCSM013 Facilitate and review case management
  11. CHCDEV005 Analyse impacts of sociological factors on people in community work and services
  12. CHCDFV001 Recognise and respond appropriately to domestic and family violence

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Minimum Age to Apply All international students must be 18 years of age or older. 
Academic Entry Requirements

KAA requires students to have completed Year 12 or an equivalent higher secondary schooling level of a School Certificate.

Additionally, applicants are required to undertake a Course Entry Requirement Test (CERT) and obtain a minimum of 50% to be deemed eligible to enter the course

Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum) KAA requires students to have a  current IELTS score of 5.5 overall with no band less than 5.0, or equivalent English test result.

Internship or Work Placements

Students undertaking CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services must complete a total of 200 hours of work placement as part of the course requirements. They have the option to arrange their own suitable work placement provider or apply with any of KAA’s multiple accredited work placement partners across Sydney.
