Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who diagnose, analyse, evaluate, design and modify vehicle systems in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.

Course Structure

The following 12 units of competency must be completed to achieve this qualification:

  1. AURAFA007 Develop and document specifications and procedures
  2. AURAFA106 Conduct research and present technical reports
  3. AURETE001 Analyse and evaluate electrical and electronic faults in engine management systems
  4. AURETA002 Analyse and evaluate electrical and electronic faults in body management systems
  5. AURETX001 Analyse and evaluate electrical and electronic faults in driveline management systems
  6. AURLTB002 Analyse and evaluate faults in light vehicle braking systems
  7. AURLTD007 Analyse and evaluate faults in light vehicle steering and suspension systems
  8. AURLTE003 Analyse and evaluate faults in light vehicle engine and fuel systems
  9. AURLTQ003 Analyse and evaluate faults in light vehicle transmission and driveline systems
  10. AURTNA001 Estimate and quote automotive vehicle or machinery modifications
  11. AURTTA022 Develop and apply mechanical system modifications
  12. BSBWHS521 Ensure a safe workplace for a work area

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Academic Entry Requirements Students must have successfully completed AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency.
Minimum Age to Apply Sheffield requires that all students must be 18 years of age or above at the commencement of the course.

Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum)

Must have an IELTS overall band of 5.5 or equivalent. 

Those who do not meet the minimum IELTS requirement will be referred to an accredited English Language Training provider to undertake an English Language course prior to commencing this qualification.

The Diploma of Automotive Technology prepares new employees or recognizes and develops existing workers who are performing advanced diagnosis and design tasks in the automotive industry. Job roles related to this qualification include:

Internship or Work Placements

Students must undertake 100 hours of supervised field placement as part of the course which is excellent opportunity to improve their practical job skills. Sheffield organises work placement on a non-paid basis.
