Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of workers who provide self-directed recovery oriented support for people affected by mental illness and psychiatric disability. Work involves implementing community based programs and activities focusing on mental health, mental illness and psychiatric disability.

Course Structure

The following 15 units of competency are required to attain this qualification:

Core Units

  1. CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  2. CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety
  3. CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically
  4. CHCMHS002 Establish self-directed recovery relationships
  5. CHCMHS003 Provide recovery oriented mental health services
  6. CHCMHS004 Work collaboratively with the care network and other services
  7. CHCMHS005 Provide services to people with co-existing mental health and alcohol and other drugs issues
  8. CHCMHS007 Work effectively in trauma informed care
  9. CHCMHS008 Promote and facilitate self advocacy
  10. CHCMHS011 Assess and promote social, emotional and physical wellbeing
  11. HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety

Elective Units

  1. HLTWHS006 Manage personal stressors in the work environment
  2. CHCADV001 Facilitate the interests and rights of clients
  3. CHCAGE001 Facilitate the empowerment of older people
  4. CHCCCS003 Increase the safety of individuals at risk of suicide

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Minimum Age to Apply All international students must be 18 years of age or older. 
Academic Entry Requirements

KAA requires students to have completed Year 12 or an equivalent higher secondary schooling level of a School Certificate.

Additionally, applicants are required to undertake a Course Entry Requirement Test (CERT) and obtain a minimum of 50% to be deemed eligible to enter the course

Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum) KAA requires students to have a  current IELTS score of 5.5 overall with no band less than 5.0, or equivalent English test result.
