Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of commercial cooks who have a supervisory or team leading role in the kitchen. They operate independently or with limited guidance from others and use discretion to solve non-routine problems. This qualification provides a pathway to work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops, or to run a small business in these sectors.

Course Structure

To be awarded the SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management, participants must complete a total of 33 units of competency, consisting of 27 core and 6 elective units.

Academic Entry Requirements Satisfactory completion of Australian Year 10 qualification or it's equivalent.
Minimum Age to Apply Students need to be 18 years of age or over. 
Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum) IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent.

Internship or Work Placements

Work placement (work-based learning) will consist of two terms of 48 and 12 shifts of paid or unpaid work for the following two units respectively. SITHKOP005 - coordinate cooking operations, SITHCCC020 - Work effectively as a cook, which will run concurrently. These units will be undertaken in Term 5 and then again in term 8, and requires students to spend approximately 200 hours of practical placement in a commercial kitchen in each of those two terms.
