Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

Course Structure

The following 14 units of competency are required to complete this course:

Core Units:

  1. CHCCCS015 Provide individualised support 
  2. CHCDIS002 Follow established person-centred behaviour supports 
  3. CHCDIS005 Develop and provide person-centred service responses 
  4. CHCDIS007 Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability 
  5. CHCDIS008 Facilitate community participation and social inclusion 
  6. CHCDIS009 Facilitate ongoing skills development using a person-centred approach 
  7. CHCDIS010 Provide person-centred services to people with disability with complex needs 
  8. CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people 
  9. CHCLEG003 Manage legal and ethical compliance 
  10. HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems 
  11. HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care

Elective Units:

  1. BSBLDR402 Lead effective workplace relationships

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Minimum Age to Apply iLearn Oz will only enrol students who are over 18 years of age at commencement of their course.

Academic Entry Requirements To enter this qualification, applicants should have successfully completed an equivalent of Australian year 12 or secondary studies in applicant’s home country.

Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum)

International students must demonstrate English language proficiency with minimum score of IELTS overall band of 5.5 (Academic), or equivalent. 


The test must have been taken no more than two years before you apply for iLearn Oz Courses.

English Language Requirements Alternatively, students can provide an evidence that:
  • They have studied in English for at least five years in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or United States; or
  • Within two years of their application, they have successfully completed a foundation course or a senior secondary certificate of education or a substantial part of a Certificate III or higher level qualification from the Australian Qualifications Framework in Australia.

Internship or Work Placements

Students will be required to complete 120 hours of work placement. This is to be completed during Week 11 of each term at a time to suit the student and their work placement provider. Students must complete 30 hours of work placement during this time.

Work placement providers will be provided with a list of activities that students are to complete in the workplace to develop their skills. Assessment will also be conducted in the workplace by iLearn OZ trainer and assessor.
