Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of support workers who complete specialised tasks and functions in aged services; either in residential, home or community-based environments. Workers will take responsibility for their own outputs within defined organisation guidelines and maintain quality service delivery through the development, facilitation and review of individualised service planning and delivery.

Workers may be required to demonstrate leadership and have limited responsibility for the organisation and the quantity and quality of outputs of others within limited parameters.

Course Structure

This qualification consists of the following 18 units of competency; 15 core units and 3 elective units:

Core Units:

  1. CHCLEG003 Manage legal and ethical compliance
  2. CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  3. CHCAGE001 Facilitate the empowerment of older people
  4. CHCAGE005 Provide support to people living with dementia
  5. HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems
  6. CHCAGE004 Implement interventions with older people at risk
  7. CHCADV001 Facilitate the interests and rights of clients
  8. CHCPAL001 Deliver care services using a palliative approach
  9. CHCAGE003 Coordinate services for older people
  10. CHCCCS023 Support independence and well being
  11. CHCCCS025 Support relationships with carers and families
  12. CHCPRP001 Develop and maintain networks and collaborative partnerships
  13. CHCCCS006 Facilitate individual service planning and delivery
  14. CHCCCS011 Meet personal support needs
  15. HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care

Elective Units:

  1. HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedure
  2. HLTHPS006 Assist client with medication
  3. HLTWHS004 Manage work health and safety

Academic Entry Requirements

International students must provide evidence of successful completion of year 12 or equivalent qualification. 

Minimum Age to Apply International students must be 18 years of age or above.
Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum) International students must provide evidence of English language proficiency with a valid IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent.
