Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to an ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

Course Structure

To obtain this qualification, students must complete 13 units (7 core units and 6 electives).

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Academic Entry Requirements Have completed at least the equivalent of Year 12.

Minimum Age to Apply Be at least 18 years and above.

Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum) Have an IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent (test results must not be more than 2 years old).
English Language Requirements English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
  •  Have been educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country.
  • Are a citizen and passport holders of UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand or the Republic of Ireland.
  • Have successfully completed the senior secondary certificate of education or study at Certificate IV level or higher in Australia within two years of applying for a student visa.
  • Foreign affairs or defence sponsored students.

Internship or Work Placements

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
