Course Overview

This course covers the fundamentals of childhood development and caring for children. You will develop various skills including effective interaction and communication with children, appropriate care for babies, toddlers and children, nutrition, first aid, health and safety. This course will prepare you to enter a rewarding industry where you’ll provide education and care to children during their most influential years.

Core Units:

  2. CHCECE034 Use an approved learning framework to guide practice
  3. HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
  4. CHCECE055 Meet legal and ethical obligations in children’s education and care
  5. CHCPRT001 Identify and respond to children and young people at risk
  6. CHCECE035 Support the holistic learning and development of children
  7. CHCECE036 Provide experiences to support children’s play and learning
  8. CHCECE033 Develop positive and respectful relationships with children
  9. CHCECE054 Encourage understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures
  10. CHCECE037 Support children to connect with the natural environment

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Minimum Age to Apply iLearn Oz will only enrol students who are over 18 years of age at commencement of their course.

Academic Entry Requirements To enter this qualification, applicants should have successfully completed an equivalent of Australian year 12 or secondary studies in applicant’s home country.

Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum)

International students must demonstrate English language proficiency with minimum score of IELTS overall band of 5.5 (Academic), or equivalent. 


The test must have been taken no more than two years before you apply for iLearn Oz Courses.

English Language Requirements Alternatively, students can provide an evidence that:
  • They have studied in English for at least five years in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or United States; or
  • Within two years of their application, they have successfully completed a foundation course or a senior secondary certificate of education or a substantial part of a Certificate III or higher level qualification from the Australian Qualifications Framework in Australia.

Internship or Work Placements

The students are required to undertake at least 160 hours of work placement in a regulated education and care service to complete the requirements of this qualification. iLearn Oz will arrange work placement for students at an approved childcare centre and location suitable for students. Students are required to completed assessment tasks and maintain a logbook throughout the placement
