Course Overview

This is a trade qualification for carpenters in residential and commercial workplaces. It includes setting out, manufacturing, constructing, assembling, installing and repairing products made using timber and non-timber materials.

Course Structure

To achieve this qualification students must successfully complete the following 29 units of competency:

Core Units:

  1. CPCCCA2002 Use carpentry tools and equipment
  2. CPCCCA2011 Handle carpentry materials
  3. CPCCCA3001 Carry out general demolition of minor building structures
  4. CPCCCA3002 Carry out setting out
  5. CPCCCA3003 Install flooring systems
  6. CPCCCA3004 Construct and erect wall frames
  7. CPCCCA3005 Construct ceiling frames
  8. CPCCCA3006 Erect roof trusses
  9. CPCCCA3007 Construct pitched roofs
  10. CPCCCA3008 Construct eaves
  11. CPCCCA3010 Install windows and doors
  12. CPCCCA3016 Construct, assemble and install timber external stairs
  13. CPCCCA3017 Install exterior cladding
  14. CPCCCA3024 Install lining, panelling and moulding
  15. CPCCCA3025 Read and interpret plans, specifications and drawings for carpentry work
  16. CPCCCA3028 Erect and dismantle formwork for footings and slabs on ground
  17. CPCCCM2006 Apply basic levelling procedures
  18. CPCCCM2008 Erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding
  19. CPCCCM2012 Work safely at heights
  20. CPCCCO2013 Carry out concreting to simple forms
  21. CPCCCA3012 Frame and fit wet area fixtures
  22. CPCCCA3014 Construct and install bulkheads

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Academic Entry Requirements Have successfully completed the equivalent of Year 12
Minimum Age to Apply All students must be at least 18 years of age or over at the time of enrolment. 
Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum)
  • Have an IELTS* score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
  • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
  • Successful completion of an English Placement Test.
 
*Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 6.0.
