Course Overview

In this course you’ll develop your unique personality?as a musical theatre performer, focussing on your vocal, acting and dancing and developing additional skills in areas of interest such as song writing, second instrument studies and arts management. You’ll create and deliver major performance works,?from concept to professional realisation.
At the conclusion of the course you will have expert knowledge?of contemporary music theatre practice. You will be able to communicate effectively as a contemporary performer and demonstrate initiative in a variety of contexts.

Course Structure

  • Major Study: Develop Practical skills & performance techniques across singing, acting, dancing and creating. Units such as: Major Study (1-6) and Performance Studies (1-6) 
  • Scholarship: Get a grip on music theory and history, and learn to contextualise and critique in your chosen areas of interest. Units such as Music Materials and Techniques 1 and 2, Critical Studies and Aural training. 
  • Ensemble: Develop the art of group singing, culminating each year in a major AIM musical. 
  • Associated Studies and Electives: Sharpen your focus or explore more to hone your skills.

Academic Entry Requirements

Applicants into undergraduate courses must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  1. have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 qualification (or overseas equivalent as assessed by the Department of Education, including the International Baccalaureate (IB)), in the last 2 years.
  2. Completed at least one term of full-time Higher Education (HE) study (or the part-time equivalent) at AQF level 5 degree or higher (or its overseas equivalent); OR successfully completed an AQF VET qualification Certificate IV or above (or its overseas equivalent).
  3. Applicants who have not completed one term of HE studies or a Certificate IV or above will be assessed on their secondary school results. Please note that other selection criteria, including English proficiency, will be considered.
