Course Overview

The Bachelor of Business is an accredited course of study. The aim is to enable students to critically apply routine discipline knowledge, while understanding the theoretical underpinnings, and to clearly communicate discipline advice and ideas. Students develop skills in problem solving and decision making for straight forward situations in practice, using social, ethical, economic, regulatory, and global perspectives. Bachelor of Business graduates will be able to contribute to their profession and to society within a culture of independent lifelong learning. The Bachelor of Business provides the opportunity for graduates to acquire an understanding of business and to develop a coherent body of knowledge in various majors, which will allow them to meet the entry requirements necessary for associate membership of the relevant professional bodies.

Course Structure

To graduate from the Bachelor of Business, you must satisfactorily complete 300 credit points of study comprising:

100 Level Units:

  1. BAA111People and Organisations
  2. BEA111Introduction to Markets and the Economy
  3. BEA140Data Analysis for Business
  4. BFA103Accountability and Accounting

200 Level Units:

  1. BAA211Entrepreneurship
  2. BAA215Business and Corporate Law
  3. BMA202Business Strategy
  4. BMA250Managerial Social Responsibility

Majors (Students must choose one of the following, each major has 8 units):

  1. Business Analytics 
  2. Managing People and Organisations 
  3. Marketing 

Elective Units:

Students have 100cps (8 units) to take up elective units from any of UTAS's academic offerings. They may also choose to pursue a second major in this space.

Academic Entry Requirements

Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires the completion of qualifications equivalent to a 12th year of education in Australia.

You can also meet the General Entry Requirement for this course with the following qualifications or prior studies:

  • Completion of an equivalent AQF Certificate IV or above
  • Complete or incomplete (minimum 25 credit points) of previous tertiary study at Bachelor level or higher.

If you do not meet the minimum requirements, we offer the Foundation Studies Program and X1B International First Year Diploma (Business).


Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum) This degree requires an IELTS (Academic) of 6.0, with no individual band less than 5.5, or a PTE Academic score of 50, with no score lower than 42 or equivalent.

You’ll gain job-specific skills in your major area of studying so you’re ready to enter the workforce in accounting, banking and finance, human resource management, marketing, management, hospitality management or tourism management.
