Course Overview

The Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Major) will provide students a suitable basis for a management career in the hospitality industry. Students will be equipped with strong, real-life problem-solving capabilities, the ability to anticipate change, and a commitment to lifelong personal development. With a strong foundation in core business principles, the hospitality major specialises in hospitality operations management, planning and control, innovation and entrepreneurship, quality management and event management.

Upon graduation, students will have developed a comprehensive understanding of hospitality and business management principles, combined with real-world projects based on the hospitality industry to enhance their skills. Successful completion of the Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Major) may qualify for entry into graduate programs offered by higher education institutions in Australia that require a Bachelor of Business as an entry requirement.

As part of their specialisation study, SAHE graduates of Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Major) is structured to meet the prerequisites for eligibility to apply for membership of professional bodies in the hospitality area such as CAUTHE (The Council for Australasian Tourism and Hospitality Education).

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Academic Entry Requirements Domestic Students
Domestic students must meet any one of the following minimum academic entry requirements to be eligible for admissions in the Academy’s undergraduate programs:
completion of Year 12- Secondary Education with attainment of a minimum 60 ATAR or equivalent; successful completion of approved higher education study, including approved preparation courses e.g., Tertiary Preparation Program or Tertiary Orientation Program or equivalent, 1 year of university studies, Certificate IV, or a Foundation Year Program through an accredited institution of higher education offered at:
  • Australian Universities
  • TAFE Institutes
  • Government approved Registered Training Organisations (RTO) satisfactory completion of mathematics (Year 12 level or equivalent) subjects such as General Mathematics; or Mathematical Methods; or Specialist Mathematics; or any other Mathematics subject.
International Students
International students must meet any one of the following minimum academic entry requirements to be eligible for admissions in the Academy’s undergraduate programs IN ADDITION to meeting minimum English Language requirements:
completion of the secondary education qualification (national or international) equivalent to the NSW Higher School Certificate with attainment of a minimum 60 ATAR or equivalent;
approved higher education study, including approved preparation courses from Tertiary Preparation Program, Tertiary Orientation Program or equivalent, a Foundation Year Program through an accredited institution of higher education offered at:
  • Australian Universities
  • TAFE Institutes
  • Government approved Registered Training Organisations (RTO) satisfactory completion of mathematics (Year 12 level or equivalent) subjects such as General Mathematics; or Mathematical Methods; or Specialist Mathematics; or any other Mathematics subject.
Entry Based On Employment Experience
Students may be admitted based on Recognition of Prior Learning or  relevant employment history. 
Minimum Age to Apply All applicants (domestic and international) must be 18 or older at the time of enrolment to SAHE undergraduate programs.
Mature Age Applicants
Mature age applicants who do not meet the minimum entry requirements of the Academy may be eligible for admissions if:
they are 21 or older on 1 March of the year they intend to start study;
do not have an ATAR (or equivalent result) for admission to any program; do not have a record of tertiary study.
Mature age applicants will be assessed on either recent academic achievement (e.g., Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) or on recent work experience. Decisions will also be based on skills and likelihood to succeed with tertiary study. The offer will be made only if the Dean is assured the applicant has a reasonable expectation to succeed in the program on the basis of their portfolio submission.
Language Requirement
English Language Requirements 1. Prior Education in English
a. Successful completion of one year of tertiary study in Australia (Diploma, Foundation or Higher Education);
b. Successful completion of a Certificate IV in a related field at an Australian institution;
c. Successful completing of the International Baccalaureate (IB) English B Standard Level grade 5 or above, English Higher Level (A1 or A2) grade 4 or above;
d. Students from the English Speaking countries who have citizenship or permanent long-term residency (minimum ten years) or have completed senior secondary study or at least one year of full-time university study in one of these countries and the language in which the qualification was undertaken was English
2. Proof of English Language standard through English Language Test results
a. English language proficiency test results must have been attained no more than two years before the date of application.

IELTS 6.0 (or higher) (no component lower than 5.5)
TOEFL (electronic) 213 (or higher) (with a minimum essay rating of 4.5)
TOEFL (internet-based) 80 (or higher) (with a minimum of 19 in all bands)
Pearson (PTE Academic) 50 (or higher) (with all communicative skills scores 50 or above)
3. Completion of English language courses
a. Applicants can demonstrate proficiency in English if they have completed English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) program with an accredited provider before being admitted to the Academy. Certificates of competency must be shown.
b. International students without the required level of English at the time of application will be required to satisfactorily complete an appropriate English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) program with an accredited provider before being admitted to the Academy.
