Course Overview

Our Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Skill Set course will give you a broad insight into the related fields of addiction, mental health, behaviour change, public health and community development.
This course is designed for both new entrants in this field of expertise or for existing industry workers that wish to broaden their scope of skills and knowledge in this specialised field.
The Alcohol and Other Drugs Skill Set (AOD) will give you specialised skills to recognise and work effectively with clients who experience alcohol and/or other drug issues. You will gain insight on how to provide a range of services and implement relevant health programs and interventions within the community.
Our AOD Skill Set is also ideal for people who already hold a qualification in the Community Services, Health or related field or for those who wish to broaden the scope of their current skills and knowledge.

Course Structure

Four (4) units of competency are required to complete the skill set:

  1. CHCAOD001 Work in an alcohol and other drugs context
  2. CHCAOD004 Assess needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues
  3. CHCAOD006 Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues
  4. CHCAOD009 Develop and review individual alcohol and other drugs treatment plans

This skill set has been endorsed by industry as suitable for individuals who: 
  • Hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in community services or health or related field. 
  • Have skills equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through a recognition of prior learning process.

Minimum 18 years of age.
